A cold morning on the Brooklyn Bridge. In my bag: a Fujifilm X-T3 and a small Funko Batman figure, an unusually patient model who had yet to complain about the weather.
The journey had taken me through Ahmedabad and Singapore before New York. Now I was crouching over wooden planks, arranging a ten-centimetre superhero against a very large bridge.
A change of perspective
A fellow photographer stopped and asked whether he could photograph the figure too. We chatted, took pictures and shared the quiet pleasure of finding something rather good in a small idea.
No brand workshop. No strategy deck. Mercifully, no one said “content ecosystem”.
It gave me a thought: I wanted to tell travel stories without putting my own face in the centre of every frame. Places, flights, meals and encounters deserved the space.
A travelling point of view
Batty became the name for that perspective: curious, slightly irreverent and happy to take a detour for something interesting.
The original Batman figure belongs to the personal story. Today's journal has its own abstract visual identity, with a nod to that little travelling companion.
The principle remains the same. Look a little closer. Enjoy the good things. Admit when the coffee is disappointing.
I thought I was testing a camera. Travel does enjoy making other arrangements.
